How to Style: Fall Florals

Friday, August 04, 2017 Emily Ehardt Blog

While it is only August and fall hasn't begun yet, I am already in fall mode, since I like to stay a season ahead. Fashion is at least three months ahead, so I often like to follow suit by starting to incorporate fall pieces into my look starting now. One piece that is perfect for transitioning from the summer into the fall is a floral blouse. I am not talking about a pastel colored floral, but instead a floral print on a green, burgundy, or even black background, since it allows for a moodier fall vibe. There are endless possibilities when styling a fall floral print, but here are my top five tips to get you started:

1. Pair with Denim. Whether you go for a pair of jeans or a skirt, choosing a denim piece in a medium to dark wash grounds your floral print. This tougher texture allows for contrast against the more feminine floral print and makes your look instantly geared towards the fall.

2. Style with Some Booties. Since the temps are still hot, choose a pair of booties that have either an open back or peep toe, so your feet don't get too hot. Booties are a great way to transition a floral print from the summer into the fall.

3. Add a Vest. Again, the temps are still pretty hot, but you can still add layering to your look by tossing a vest over your floral top, instead of a blazer or jacket. Choose a vest with some structure to it and pair with your favorite jeans.

4. Incorporate a Pop of Color. Even though your floral blouse is going to have a variety of colors in it already, choose a color from that blouse and incorporate it into your look with an accessory. As you can see in my look, above, I chose this sunflower hue and grabbed a gorgeous handbag in that same color. You can always opt for a colored shoe or even lipstick instead.
