Southern Cut Barbecue Brings Down South Cooking To Downtown Chicago

Every summer, back yard party needs a grill. And for every grill, there is a "grill master." You know who I mean.  That one person who makes it their soul responsibility - nay, destiny - to grill every piece of meat, vegetable or pineapple ring that crosses their path.  They are the bearer of barbecue deliciousness, and they love summertime, because it is their time to shine! 

Authentic Southern barbecue restaurant, Southern Cut Barbecue, has got it's own in-house grill master.  Well, actually she is a "pit master"!  Celebrity Chef, Lee Ann Whippen, star of TLC’s “BBQ Pitmasters", is serving up a feast of the best barbecue and fixings you have ever had; including savory pulled pork and brisket, tender chicken, honey mustard glazed salmon and flakey, piping chicken pot pie. Located in the heart of the Gold Coast,198 E. Delaware Place, Southern Cut also offers breakfast, seven days a week!   

I got a chance to get my hands (and face) dirty and sample some of Southern Cut's award-winning barbecue, as well as a smorgasbord of their other menu offerings, including dessert, of course!

Bar-B-Que Sundae - choice of smoked meat, layered with baked beans, coleslaw, pickle garnish

Smoked Meats by the Half Lb. - Pulled Pork, Brisket (sliced or chopped), Chicken, Sausage (Per Link) - Texas Style, Jalapeño & Cheddar

The Pit Master - sliced beef brisket, smoked chicken, pulled pork, coleslaw, pickled red onions, dill pickles, fried jalapenos, mild and mustard sauce on a potato roll

Smoked Chicken Quesadilla - pepper jack cheese, corn, BBQ sauce, fried jalapeños
Mac & Cheese

Banana Fofana Cream Pie - banana and vanilla bean custard, topped with whipped cream and caramelized bananas, house made crust

Mom’s Carrot Cake - moist cake with grated carrots, toasted walnuts, cream cheese butter cream icing


  
Even after I had my fill of barbecue, like literally as much as my stomach could fit, I somehow still found room for a taste of their amazing Banana Fofana Cream Pie - and I am so glad I did!  It is so rich and creamy, and the caramelized bananas on top are such a sweet touch.  I came for the barbecue...but I stayed for the pie!
