In the midst of the A/W 2016 presentations of NYFW, designer Nathalie Farfan and her business partner, Angel Macias, of Botanika were presenting their new collection. Held at the chic restaurant and lounge: Beauty and Essex, the location was just as trendy as the collection proved to be.

While only having launched the collection last fall, Farfan is young in terms of fashion. However, with fresh and cutting edge designs, Botanika’s lastest collection offered a new perspective. Botanika’s presentation was much more relaxed compared to its counterparts. The models were vibrant and lively. They wore the clothes, not letting the clothes wear them. It all seemed so fitting as
Macias stated that the 80s and 90s inspired the collection. Influences such as Cher and Madonna were noted, and that influence was certainly seen within the collection. As Macias recounted, big hair and heavy makeup played a huge role in pulling together the entire look.

As for the pieces themselves, each individual garment made a statement. Stand out striping was cohesive across the collection, whether across full garments or as statement pockets and stockings. Silhouettes were kept tailored and simple, featuring clean cut column skirts, fitted jackets and tailored jumpsuits. Fabrics of several textures added further depth and visual interest. Elements such as deep V-necklines and turtlenecks made the collection contrasting, yet versatile.

A multitude of silhouettes, fabrics and textures created an unusual and creative harmony throughout the collection. It is more than fitting to say the collection was a fresh take on the designs that grace the runways of New York Fashion Week. Undoubtedly, the duo behind Botanika are ones to watch next season.
