An Interview with Stephanie Bennett from ABC Family's Shadowhunters

With the brand new series, Shadowhunters, premiering tomorrow, I couldn't help but write a little bit about the show and fangirl about how excited I am to watch it! In case you didn't know, Shadowhunters is based off of a series of novels titled "The Mortal Instruments" written by author Cassandra Clare.

In fact, before the making of this show, the series was also adapted into a movie in 2013, titled after the first novel of the series "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones". Unfortunately, the movie wasn't exactly a hit. I, myself, wasn't too much of a fan of the movie either. Despite its setbacks, the live-action adaptation of the novel series seems to be getting a second chance through the new ABC Family television series.

I'm really excited to see the TV debut of Shadowhunters! Being a longtime fan of the series, I'm looking forward to seeing how the show-runners will bring the magical world of the Shadowhunters to life! If you weren't originally a fan of the novels or the movie, you have nothing to worry about! The Shadowhunters TV series will be set up a bit differently. While it follows some of the events of the first novel, it will also be mixed with other major events that occur later in the series, often times even straying away from the original story line.

This is definitely apparent in the fact that the TV series will be introducing some new faces. One of the original characters that will be appearing in this show is Lydia Branwell, a beautiful, no nonsense Shadowhunter, who will be played by the talented Stephanie Bennett.

Prior to being cast on Shadowhunters, Bennett was involved in some amazing shows and films, including Tim Burton's Big Eyes, iZombie, and UnREAL. However, she is most well-known for her role in the gritty Canadian drama "The Romeo Section", where she plays the role of a cocaine addict who is involved in the international drug trade.

Following her big role on The Romeo Section, she continued her television acting journey, eventually landing the role of Lydia. A few months ago, I was lucky enough to have a conversation with her about what it's like to be an actress, how she gets into character, what it was like to get immersed in the world of the Shadowhunters, and what both longtime and new fans of the series can look forward to when watching the show.

If you're as pumped for this show as I am, check out my interview with Stephanie Bennett below! To learn more about Shadowhunters, check out their website. You can also follow Stephanie Bennett on twitter. Don't forget to tune into ABC Family tomorrow night to see the premiere of Shadowhunters.
