A Time for Everything

Thursday, January 28, 2016 Jennifer Oquendo

Have you ever heard the phrase, "there is a time for everything"? Growing up I heard this often. I heard it from my teachers, my parents and even read it in the Bible. This means that there is a time to get work done and a time to do whatever is of interest to you. Often times what we want to do outweighs what we have to get done and other times the line of getting work done and fun and games can get a bit blurred out. That's when we become procrastinators and our priorities get jumbled. There is nothing wrong with doing what you want to do and having fun. Life shouldn't be all work and no fun, right?

But one thing I've learned is that there certainly is a time for everything in life. There's a time to be born and a time to die. There's a time to mourn and a time to dance. There's a time to be silent and a time to speak. We prioritize wrong and want to do what isn't important at the time and then what needs to get done doesn't get done properly. It takes discipline to remind yourself that there is a time for everything under the sun and it's important to accomplish the things that need to get done first and then do whatever we want. When I was younger my parents used to tell me if I cleaned my room and finished my homework then I was able to do whatever I wanted which was usually watch a television show. Those were the requirements and of course being young and inexperienced I would fuss about it, but it got done and I was able to watch my shows. That's the same with life. We must work towards what is important at the moment and then we can do what we want to do.
