Alvin and the Chipmunks the Musical at Rosemont Theatre Review

Friday, November 27, 2015 HALFSTACK MAGAZINE

Last Weekend Alvin & The Chipmunks hit the stage at Rosemont Theatre and a crowd of kids, mamas, papas and grandparents went wild! It is not surprising that the show has had a successful North American Tour kick off. The world's most famous chipmunk trio rocked the house in an interactive, immersive and all around fun show last weekend.

Based on the characters from the hit Twentieth Century Fox movies, the show brought to life the music and excitement of a live rock concert as the Chipmunks perform hits by One Direction, Maroon 5, Carly Rae Jepsen, Elvis Presley and more. The fact that the show combined contemporary music with old school sounds is what really connected the audience. Parents enjoyed blasts from the past with dance club throwbacks showcasing back up dancers reminiscent of fly girls straight out of the 80s and 90s. Grandparents loved the Vegas scene with the Chimpunks all decked out in Elvis get-ups while the kids belted out to Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction.

Kids were up out of their seats dancing throughout the show trying to catch confetti and getting down to the tunes. This was probably one of my favorite experiences this year as I was able to enjoy it with my little ladies. Both my 2 year old and 8 year old enjoyed the experience. The girls enjoyed the music, light show and thought that all of Alvin's shenanigans were hilarious. There wasn't a scene that went by where Alvin wasn't getting the group into some sort of trouble and Dave wasn't yelling his ever familiar "ALLLLLLVVIIIIIINNN"!!  I won't give away all the details, but let's just say Vegas goes dark for a bit.

The show was Produced by Iconic Entertainment Studios, the show’s world-class team includes Tony Award- winning “Lion King” costume designer Michael Curry, and the Billboard Touring Creative Content award winning production team from “Yo Gabba Gabba.” The theatrics and set up were very similar to the past shows I've seen like Yo Gabba Gabba in the sense that the costuming was on point and the interaction was created to keep kids entertained and get them involved. It was amazing to me that the actors and dancers were able to dance so well considering their big head style costumes, but the talent was top notch and it definitely showed.

From show stopping song and dance numbers to the beautifully done digital art backgrounds, the performance was entrancing from start to finish. This family friendly programming is a great way to introduce the littlest ones in your family to theatre in a fun and interactive way. The Rosemont Theatre was decked out in holiday flare and made the perfect backdrop to a family afternoon out. You can check out other upcoming shows at:
