Creative Inspo Hacks: Start Where You Are & A Giveaway

Monday, October 19, 2015 HALFSTACK MAGAZINE

The idea of journaling has been around for so many years. Yet, over the years it has evolved from just taking pen to paper to the idea of creative journaling. Art journaling has recently become a more common part of popular culture. Yet, many creatives and artists alike have utilized art journals for their process work in the past. When it comes to art journaling, the focus is more on the process rather than the final product.

Sometimes it can be difficult to start the art journaling process. Prompts are an easy way to get the creative juices flowing. A person might just a need a small idea implanted in their mind to jolt creativity to life. That is why I love creative journals like Start Where You Are. They are a simple way to get your mind into that creative mode.

START WHERE YOU ARE is a full-color, passion-inspiring journal designed to nurture creativity, explore inner thoughts, and help us focus on what matters most. With vibrant hand-lettering and watercolor illustrations, the book pairs life-affirming quotes with encouraging exercises to spark reflection through writing, drawing, chart-making, and more—and in the process allows readers to create and know themselves better, no matter where in life they find themselves.

Start Where You Are was illustrated and connected by the talented: Meera Lee Patel. Meera Lee Patel is a self-taught artist raised by the New Jersey shore, where she swam the bright waters and climbed cherry blossom trees until she grew old enough to draw them. Her illustrations are inspired by the magical mysteries of nature, the quiet stories that lace through everyday life, and the bold colors of her native India.

Some tips to keep in mind for art journaling:

Make time to journal. You can start small, just 5-10 minutes per day. It's an opportunity to create and can be an amazing stress relief experience.
Find Inspiration. Pull images from newspapers, magazines or scan and print images from interesting books. Even random things like ticket stubs, paper, patterns and fabric can all add interest and texture to your journal.
Get Organized. Grab all the items you need and keep them in a place that is easy to access and portable. This way you can take it whenever the inspiration strikes.
