The hashtag (#BlackLivesMatter) has been sweeping the Internet. It began on 2012 after the death of Trey’von Martin. A 17-year-old boy who was tragically shot in the hands of George Zimmerman. This story immediately hit national headlines, sparking outrage of the injustices of black lives.

It has also been used to fight for justice for those after Trey’von Martin.  The hashtag has been used to bring awareness to and fight for the justice of Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, Samuel DuBose, and those lives whom don’t make it to the news.

The movement has been recognized in protests all over the county in place lie Chicago, Baltimore, Furguson, and New York City. There have been many petitions and events formed behind the inspiration of the Black Lives Matter hashtags.

This is a whole new generation of activism that has never been seen before. This is the first of its kind. It is a large group of people with the same views and beliefs on an issue, but they are all over. They now have the power to meet up wherever they’d like and discuss initiatives, opinions, and the problem as a whole.
