Think Asia, Think Hong Kong: the Future of Business

Tuesday, June 16, 2015 Pearl

On Wednesday, June 10, Chicago's McCormick Place hosted the Think Asia, Think Hong Kong symposium. This event, which garnered over a thousand attendees, informed business owners and entrepreneurs about the many different opportunities that exist for people to expand their businesses in Hong Kong as well as how it can create a pathway to doing business with the rest of Asia.

The Think Asia, Think Hong Kong event had a guest list of incredibly knowledgeable and successful speakers who spoke about their experiences in business, business expansion, and doing business overseas. Some of the guests included Stefan M. Selig (US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade), Marjorie Yang (Chairman of Esquel Group), Vincent H. S. Lo (Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council), C. Y. Leung (Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Morgan McGrath (Managing Director and Head of International Banking for JP Morgan Chase's Commercial Bank), Gebhard Rainer (President and Chief Operating Officer of Coach Inc.), as well as as other accomplished guests.

The special guest speakers spoke at both the main symposium and thematic sessions. The panels centered around sharing the benefits of expanding business to Asia and doing business in Hong Kong specifically. At a panel, one of the speakers explained that the unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures is what attracts a lot of people and businesses to Hong Kong. This blend of cultures is what helps a lot of international businesses expand their brands overseas and thrive, especially since language and culture is something that concerns a lot of businesses when they consider expanding their company.

Think Asia, Think Hong Kong was an incredible conference that was not only informative about the different business opportunities in Hong Kong, but also provided a chance for the attendees to network with businesses from Hong Kong, Chicago, and the guests and speakers who were in attendance. I really look forward to learning more about the opportunities that Hong Kong offers at the conference next year!
