"The Business of Being an Artist" by Daniel Grant: Book Review

Tuesday, June 23, 2015 Pearl

"The Business of Being an Artist" by Daniel Grant is one of the most interesting books that I've read about what it takes to be a professional visual artist. This book provides advice for visual artists who are unsure of where to look or start in their professional careers. This book not only shares the experiences of experienced artists, but it also gives tips on how to get accustomed to the business aspects of the art world.

The author, Daniel Grant, is a veteran when it comes to understanding the workings of the art world. He is a contributor editor of American Artist magazine and is also the author of six books, including "The Fine Artist's Career Guide" and "How to Grow as an Artist". His knowledge of the art world definitely translates onto the pages of this book. Some of the topics that this book covers include developing relationships with art dealers, transitioning from art school to the working world, searching for funding, handling pressure, criticism and rejection, and more.

Having many friends that are currently majoring in or recently graduated with an art degree, I think that this book is essential to any artist that wants to learn what it takes to successfully get their work out into the public. The information that's given in the book is straight forward and compelling. It's the perfect summer read!

You can purchase the most recent, fifth edition of "The Business of Being an Artist" as well as Daniel Grant's other works on Amazon.
