Guard Your Heart

Wednesday, June 17, 2015 Jennifer Oquendo

People will always fail you. How do I know? Because I fail people all the time. No one is perfect and unfortunately failure is apart of life. We can't always meet everyone's expectations and we can't always satisfy everyone.

Sometimes we struggle between what is right and what we feel. For example, forgiving someone who cheated on you is definitely a hard thing to do. It takes courage, understanding and a lot of compassion to be able to forgive. Even though it's hard to forgive, it's the right thing to do. Forgiving someone for their wrong doings and their mistakes really frees you from any anger, resentment and bitterness.

Those three words can make a beautiful person look terribly ugly. Anger, resentment and bitterness can not only destroy you but can also make life harder for you. Who wants to be angry all the time?Who wants to hold a grudge about something that happened years ago? It's tiring to be angry and bitter at someone for so long. This is when guarding your heart becomes very important. Our heart is a bundle of untamed emotions where shielding it during difficult moments can help us get over any pain and hurt. People always say, "I love you with all of my heart," because the heart is a fragile and sensitive part of who we are. Words can sometimes hinder and affect our heart, which is why we must guard our heart from any abuse to it.

It's time to move forward in a clean slate. Life can be a lot easier and less stressful if we learn to talk things out and let things go. Mistakes will happen and people will continue to make them. We will get hurt but as long as we guard our heart, the issues of this world will not affect us.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
Proverbs 4:23
