C2E2 chicago

There's No Place Like C2E2

Batman, Spiderman, the Ghostbusters, and Mario are all in one room.  No, this is not the beginning of a joke, this is Chicago’s Pop Culture Event.  Also know as C2E2, this weekend-long event is a comic and entertainment convention, comparable to San Diego's acclaimed Comic Con.

This year’s convention ran from April 25th -27th at McCormick Place.   More than 787 vendors and  354 artists were in attendance.  Even more impressive?  The amount of attendees who proudly donned costumes.

My usual events of interest include, fashion shows and label debuts, not middle-aged men and women walking around dressed up as their favorite super heroes.  Even so, I see Captain America posing for a photo op with Aqua Man and I can’t help but smile to myself.

As I walk through the show room floor, I feel the judgment of these “nerds” subside.  The obvious commitment and dedication that went into every display and costume was astounding.  I was also quite excited to see Ernie Hudson, one of the original Ghostbusters and Rider Strong, also known as Shawn of Boy Meets World.

Everyone has his or her own passions.  For me, it’s scoring a great deal on a vintage Coach purse, for others it might be sitting driver’s seat in the original Ghostbusters mobile.   Either way, finding others who share our passions is a wonderful thing.  You do you, crime fighting, flame throwing, individuals! Just don't overdo it on the spandex.
