Oil Pulling and La Tourangelle Giveaway

Tuesday, May 06, 2014 HALFSTACK MAGAZINE

Oil pulling has been in the spotlight a lot these last few months. Dr. Oz has talked about it and even our fave healthy you tuber - Sabrina of Living Fabulously has mentioned the health benefits of items such as coconut oil! She uses it as lotion, hair oil and of course for cooking. When I first heard about oil pulling, I was a little skeptical at first, but for such a simple process - I figured what did I have to lose? So, I gave it a try.

The team over at La Tourangelle was kind enough to send me some of their organic virgin coconut oil and allow me to give it a try. The thought of swishing around oil in my mouth for 15-20 minutes a day sounded a bit intimidating, but when the oil is smooth and tasty, it is not so bad. Some experts suggest sesame seed oil and some suggest coconut oil. Coconut oil tasted a bit better in my opinion.

La Tourangelle is an authentic & traditional producer of specialty oils handcrafting a wide range of delicious artisan nut oils both in France and California. All the La Tourangelle nut oils sold in North America are made in our artisan oil mill located in Woodland, CA mostly from California grown nuts.

The brand also distributes an exclusive line of premium oils imported from all over the World. Most importantly though, the artisan oils are expeller-pressed, Non-GMO, all natural and delicious. So, definitely something that is great for you and tastes great. The older I get, the more conscious I am about what I am putting in my body and brands like La Tourangelle make it so much easier for me as I try to make better food decisions.

Now, what in the world is oil pulling you ask?  Oil pulling is an age-old remedy that uses natural substances to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. It has the added effect of whitening teeth naturally and evidence even shows that it is beneficial in improving gums and removing harmful bacteria! So, all that from swishing around oil while checking email first thing in the morning, didn't seem so bad. Overall, I noticed a slight difference in my teeth. They were shinier and some of my tea stains have started to fade off. Of course, I am sure it will take a bit longer to really make a difference. To be honest, it seemed a lot more kind on my teeth as opposed to my whitening strips or gel that made my teeth a bit sensitive.

La Tourangelle was kind enough to offer us a batch of oils (the trio plus a high quality almond oil) to give away this week to one of you lucky Halfstackers out there! So, if you enjoy cooking or want to give this oil pulling thing a try, you can enter to win by tweeting us @halfstackmag with this simple phrase - "@halfstackmag #giveaway I wanna try some @LaTourangelle" - 1 winner will be randomly selected and announced on Monday May 12, 2014 at 2PM.

Goodluck!
