Did you know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  There is that repulsive word again... Cancer.  Have you noticed that as of the last decade, cancer seems more and more prevalent in daily conversations than ever before?  Whether it's been a personal battle, a friend, friend of a friend, or a loved one,  we've all been touched by the ugly disease in some way.

The reasons for why it develops vary as science continues to try to understand the disease; it's in our diets, we are genetically predisposed, if you live a sedentary lifestyle....  the list continues to soar with reasons.

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and about 39,620 women will die from the disease in 2013.  This... is not ok.

Scoobies for Boobies is an organization that raises money to benefit various cancer awareness organizations, this year working hand in hand with the Keep A Breast Foundation.  Scoobies for Boobies was formed in 2008 by a group of like minded, Subaru loving women to promote awareness in the community and to raise money to fund research for a cure.  For those of you unfamiliar, Scoobie is one of many, slang words used to describe Subaru, hence the organization's name.....

This coming weekend, you can join in the fight with SFB to find a cure by attending the Second Annual Chili Cook Off for a Cure, hosted by Hawthorn's Backyard.  Located at 1200 W. Hawthorne Lane in West Chicago, the event will feature food, drinks, bands, raffles, activities and more in which all of the proceeds will go to the efforts of SFB.  With more than $8,000 in silent auction items, raffle prizes and various sponsors on site, including the West Chicago Professional Firefightes Union #3970, Miller Beer Music Truck and others...  It's going to be a fabulously fun event for people of all ages.

Admission for adults is only $8.00 and $5.00 for children under the age of 10.  So if you are looking for something different and fun to do this weekend, please join SFB for a day of merriment and be a part of the journey in finding a cure!

Money raised to date:

2011 - $15,834
2010 - $14,746.18
