A SPA-liday Deal from Ten Thousand Villages

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 Sophie Magdalena

A common misconception with the ending of Summer is that our skin is safe from any harmful substances for the balance of the cooler months......  But aghhh, we couldn't be any more wrong.  In fact, in our experience, Fall and Winter require even more protection from those harmful UV rays and extra hydrating regimens to keep your skin feeling smooth and silky during those dry, nose-nipping days.

Well Ten Thousand Villages is here to help!  From now through September 23rd, Ten Thousand Villages is offering a SPA-liday Deal with 25% off ALL bath and body products!  Perfect timing to exfoliate, moisturize and start fresh for the new season!

A company focused on selling high-quality, hand-made products, Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade, non-profit retail organization that operates with the mission to create income-earning opportunities for artisans in developing countries by establishing a sustainable market for handmade products in North America.  Representing the cultures of artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, Ten Thousand Villages not only provides their customers with beauty products, but is an exceptional source for unique handmade gifts, jewelry, home decor, art, sculptures, textiles and more.  Their product sales not only assist in providing stable incomes for artisans, but helps pay for food, education, healthcare and housing for those who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed.

Sounds like an incredible business model and an even better deal for the consumer who takes advantage of these great savings, while helping to develop countries in need worldwide!  So take a peak at these amazing products and get to shopping before the sale ends!

Shea Butter Cream - $20.00; Sale Price $15.00

Artisans in Accra, Ghana, source this shea butter locally.  I is hand-processed by two other groups that harvest nuts fro shea trees.  Ghanaians use shea butter for a wide variety of purposes, including cooking, moisturizing and as an anti-inflammatory.  Shea nuts are very hard, and require multi-stage processing before they can be used.

In addition to the harvesting and processing of shea butter, and the production of the cream itself, this product provides work for fairly paid artisans who produce the ceramic container and the recycled glass beads used for decoration. Please find a video HERE revealing how the shea butter is made.
Green Tea Lemongrass Soap - $9.00; Sale Price $6.75

The fresh, light scent of green tea and lemongrass. All natural soap with a shea butter base. Handmade in Ghana with native shea butter. The “adinkra” double heart stamped on each bar of soap symbolizes nature’s bounty and sustenance of life.

Jaipur Blockprint Robe - $59.00; Sale Price: $44.25

Gentle patterns in blue, olive and cream are block printed on this comfortable, soft cotton robe. Block printing is a labor-intensive method of hand-printing fabric. The artisans imprint the cloth with a wooden block featuring a hand carved design. The printer moves from left to right, dipping the design block into the dye and stamping it onto the cloth. This is repeated to cover the entire cloth with the intended design and colors. Handmade in India.
Peace Soap: Sweet Sage Olive Oil Soap - $9.00; Sale Price: $6.75

Handmade by Sindyanna of Galilee, a group of Arab and Jewish women working together to provide equal opportunities in development and employment in Israel. This soap soothes and relaxes with the gentle smell of sweet sage.

Beautiful Body Care Kit - $18.00; Sale Price $13.50

Creating this kit involves the contributions of two artisan workshops. Artisans working with Palam Rural in Tamil Nadu, India, make the handmade soap. Artisans employed by Community Action for Social Transformation (CAST) weave the palm leaf baskets. CAST provides employment and healthcare to women affected by HIV and AIDS. All our soaps made in India use palm oil grown on local plantations. This palm oil provides work to local farmers and does not contribute to deforestation.

This body care kit makes a great natural materials gift. Includes two bars of handmade soap scented with cucumber and coconut, and a natural fiber body scrubber, tied together in a palm leaf basket.

All our soaps made in India use palm oil grown on local plantations. This palm oil provides work to local farmers and does not contribute to deforestation.
